Steel Production and the U.S. Trade Agenda
The Trump Administration is sticking to its commitment to examine existing trade deals and their impact on the price of goods coming into the country, particularly steel. The Secretary of Commerce is currently conducting an investigation into possible dumping of steel from China and other trade partners.
At the same time, the Administration is poised to begin renegotiation of the landmark 1994 trade agreement NAFTA. While we don’t know what a revised agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico would look like yet, we can expect details on this and the outcome of the Secretary of Commerce’s investigation in the next few months.
What does this mean for our industry? Potentially new regulations on big trade partners like China and the E.U., which could have a big impact on pricing and availability of imports.
We recognize how this can affect your business, so we’re monitoring developments closely and will keep you updated in the coming months. Keep an eye on our News section for more updates as we come across them.
