Giving Back to Chicago’s South Loop Tent City
At Porter Pipe, we are dedicated to spending the holidays giving back where it’s needed most. To kick off the holiday season in good spirits, our very own Chicago Will Call spread the joy to their local community on December 6 with a clothing drive for the less fortunate.
Located in the South Loop of the city, our Chicago Will Call is near the Des Plaines Street “tent city”, one of the many sites throughout the downtown area that is heavily populated with homeless individuals living in makeshift housing and tents. It’s a true community within itself, and Will Call branch manager Frank Porter and administrative assistant Caitlin Butkus took it upon themselves to help the members of that community this season. These two spearheaded the clothing drive initiative, getting everyone in the Porter Pipe family involved in the process.
Members of our team from all four branches took the time to find and deliver clothes to our Chicago Will Call, where our on-location members packed them up, along with bags of food, before making their way to the tent city for delivery. On the morning of December 6, the entire Will Call team headed down to Des Plaines Street and hand-delivered our donations to the members of the community.
Getting to see firsthand the joy our donations brought to those in the tent city was a truly incredible experience for our team, and one we will always remember. A huge thank you to everyone in the Porter Pipe family who donated their time and clothing, and an even bigger thank you to Frank and Caitlin for getting Porter Pipe involved in such a worthy cause. This is what our culture is all about!
