History

OriginalTruck

In 1976, Ralph Porter and his son Jim started Porter Supply Company. Ralph worked in the office and Jim drove a used pick-up for deliveries. They rented a 8,000 sq. ft. building, and the first year's sales totaled $310,000.00.

Bud Porter has been active with the company since 1983, and is currently Vice-President.

In 1991, Porter Supply expanded into the same building, but occupied two units totaling 18,000sq. ft. In 1996 they purchased the building at the current location and completely renovated it to meet their needs.

In 1999, they opened an 8,000 sq. ft. will-call facility in downtown Chicago, near the loop

With the addition of the downtown location, Porter Pipe now totals 74,000 sq. ft. of product space, 99 employees and sales for the last fiscal of $50 million.

There are 10 inside salesmen at the order desks, ready for your calls. 1 of 9 outside salesmen will stop by to make sure every detail of your order is handled as you would have it. 18 office personnel, 11 truck drivers, 5 fabricators, and 20 warehouse employees make up the team that sees your order through from start to finish.

When you come to our will-call counter, one of 4 counter service people can assist you in getting what you require.

Porter Pipe, as they became in 1999, is owned and operated by first generation management, and will be well into the 21st century.
